Colour Me Happy

One of my favourite Irish brands for its absolute feel-good factor is Kenmare-based Begley & Bowie. Defined by its vibrant colours, whimsical slogans and fun motifs, Begley & Bowie has been a huge hit with consumers since its launch in 2019 (have we ever needed the brand’s positive messaging more?) and it will feature in this summer’s Create event at Brown Thomas for the second year running. Hoodies cost €100, sweatshirts €90 and T-shirts €40.

Lightening Bolt Moment

Fancy channelling a little of Charlize Theron’s impeccable style? Then pick up a pair of Irish jewellery brand Edge Only’s Lightening Bolt sterling silver earrings. The Oscar-winning actress wears the exquisite earrings in her cameo role in Amazon Prime’s The Boys. The Lightening Bolt style also comes in pendant form and both it and the earrings can be bought in 14-carat gold; from €135

Irish Art Extravaganza

If There’s Fire on the Mountain II by Tracy Sweeney; €420 at tracysweeney.com

Páipéar Group Exhibition kicks off at Hang Tough Contemporary gallery on July 15. The first of its kind, this large-scale exhibition will showcase 115 original works on paper by prestigious Irish and Ireland-based artists. Those exhibiting include former Brown Thomas creative director John Redmond; Mayo-based visual artist Tracy Sweeney; contemporary artist Paula McGurdy, who I’ve been following on Instagram for some time; and (shameless plug) my own very talented niece Fiona Duffy. The exhibition runs till August 31.

Heart and Sole

Irish designer Nicki Hoyne has added these chic Mary Jane mules to her collection of slow fashion footwear. Available in pop art shades, animal print and metallics, these gorgeous slip-ons are a comfortable and chic option when you want to elevate your look without having to suffer the pain and indignity of high heels; €200

New Flame In Town

New candle brand Laluna has launched a small selection of unisex scents with a cool, contemporary design. The brand’s aesthetic is slick and refined, and its fragrances warm and sophisticated. Hand-poured in Greystones, County Wicklow, Laluna candles are made from soy wax, have cotton and linen wicks and are presented in amber glass jars, which owner Beth Merriman suggests reusing afterwards to plant seeds or hold makeup brushes etc; from €16.99.

The Beauty of Balance

Bare by Vogue’s latest product launch, a yoga mat, has been designed by Cork visual artist Deirdre Breen. With its vibrant colours and geometric shapes, Breen describes the mat as “a celebration of symmetry, balance and form….central tenets in fitness, health and wellbeing”. I don’t practice yoga, but I would happily use this mat as a wall hanging because I love its contemporary aesthetic and pop art shades; €89.
