cool collab

Dunmore East-based sustainable brand Zizo has collaborated with Heyday contributor Pat Kane of eco store Reuzi to create a range of sustainable, ethical, gender-inclusive hooded and crew-neck sweatshirts. Called The Power Of One, the message behind the collection is “One individual, one change, one day at a time…one better planet”. Perfect for breezy beach walks this summer, each item costs €88.

Bag a Bargain

You may have heard of the Irish online charity shop Thriftify, but did you know that it now lists secondhand designer items too? From Prada and (old) Celine handbags to Alexander McQueen heels and Saint Laurent sunglasses, Thriftify is the new Vestiaire. This gorgeous earthy orange mini bag from Jacquemus is the ideal summer accessory: colourful, lightweight and shaped like the sun; €157 (RRP €392)

A Dress to Impress

While I’m not usually a fan of frills, there’s something about this H&M dress that really appeals to me. The tranquil shade of blue, woven fabric, and effortless drape combine to elevate it beyond the usual high-street seasonal offerings. Styled with sliders, as above, it looks suitably laid-back for day, but I think I’d glam it up with heels and jewellery for a high-summer celebration; €59.99

Ear Candy

Handcrafted on the Dingle Peninsula by Megan Mulcahy, Lola & Winter jewellery is made from 18-24 carat gold-plated materials and a mixture of semi-precious stones and gems. Many of the pieces in Mulcahy’s collection have a cool, bohemian vibe, perfect for summer, although my favourite is this pair of stunning Art Deco-style earrings; €42

Art and Soul

I love Kilkenny-based interiors and lifestyle store The Snug Room for unique home accessories and dinky decorative bits and pieces. This Be Kind canvas banner made by Kenyan artists is in my shopping cart; €10

getting grounded

Rachel, therapist at Hayfield Manor, working with GROUND.

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know how much I love the Irish wellbeing brand GROUND. I love it for many reasons, not least for the excellent and effective products and inimitable expertise of its founder, Peigín Crowley, but mostly for the heart, soul and intention behind it. When I say this brand came from deep within her, believe me - it did. For her, GROUND is her purpose, in a way that HEYDAY is mine. In fact, our brands are pandemic twins - we both started up from our kitchen tables, with our families looking on in the very first lockdown. And Peigín has steered a very steady ship so far with the brand in the best of spas including her most recent collaboration with the lovely, five star, Hayfield Manor in Cork. This partnership is something extremely special with a treatment series designed by Peigín and Rachel - the multi-award-winning head therapist - with pure wellbeing in mind. When these esteemed veteran therapists began to design these treatments, they both decided to not follow convention as it has been followed in many treatments over time - instead they chose to design the treatments to their own instincts about what people really need. Their path is one of pure purpose - to make people feel held -and to help them feel well. I was lucky enough to be invited to have one of the body treatments and it was one of the most beautiful (almost emotional) experiences I’ve had in a spa. It felt deeply nourishing, gentle and nurturing, whilst also sorting out a lower back niggle I’d been walking around with for a while. It featured breathwork and a short, guided meditation beforehand to centre me into my body, which I loved. It was sublime, the brand is sublime, and the women who guide and grow it are utterly sublime. Do yourself the greatest of favours and experience this.
